Easter Monday is known as Lany Poniedzialek in Poland, and is celebrated as Śmigus-Dyngus Day (shmee-gooss dingooss). Boys attempt to drench girls with buckets of water or squirt guns, and tradition states if a girl receives a drenching, she will marry within the year! In some towns, they use twigs to switch (birch) the girls. The tradition originates from the Pagan spring ritual of pouring water and birching with willows as a means of cleansing, purification, and making things right with the god of nature.

So! Whilst you’re tucking into yummy chocolate Easter eggs on Monday, why not have some fun and give a new tradition a try? Happy Easter from everyone at GlobeUs!
